I read an article in the 90′s about long lines for women’s bathrooms and no waiting for men’s bathrooms. That influenced this page.

When I drew this in the 90′s, teenagers could not legally drink alcohol in Michigan, but this never stopped those who wanted to drink alcohol. They visited Windsor as soon as they turned nineteen, or they asked older siblings and cousins to buy them alcohol. Some poured a few sips out of each of the bottles in their parents’ liquor cabinets, and carried the results to school in a travel mug. In short, determined teenagers drank alcohol behind the backs of the adults.
I figured at some point in the future, adults would allow older teenagers to drink alcohol in places like clubs.

When I went to rock concerts as a teenager, I got to dress up in outfits that I could never have worn anywhere else. A rock concert meant a costume adventure, something that normally required Halloween.
For what it’s worth, here’s what’s being whispered in the last panel:
“shotgun. I get the front seat…”
“gosh, you’d think we were gonna run into Satan or somethin’…”
